What To Bring to Smoke School

The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude. Whitlow Smoke Schools are different. People have fun and they pass.

The next most important thing to bring is appropriate clothing. This is outside training. During the winter dress in layers. I wear insulated long johns, insulated coveralls, hunting coats, warm wool socks, and boots. We build campfires wherever they are permitted. If it is raining I bring a raincoat. We conduct most of our training under picnic shelters or tarps, but you still may get wet coming from your truck or going to the restroom. During the summer, I wear shorts and tee-shirts unless we are having the school inside of an industrial plant location. In industrial plant locations, you should bring proper clothing, steel toe shoes, and a hardhat.

You do not have to worry about bringing the following, because we furnish them:

• Clipboard

• Ball point pens

• Test forms and test sheets

• Ringelmann smoke charts

• Instruction sheets for reading opacity during the test and in the field

• Fresh hot coffee

• Ice cold bottled water and sodas

• Donuts when we can find them- Call us ahead of time 318-361-2355 or email smokeschool@yahoo.com if you plan to pass a bakery on the way and you don't mind picking them up. Bring your receipt.

• Free lunch

• Free raffle tickets for door prizes

• Prizes for those who make the best scores

Special notice for state and federal employees from Uncle Buck, a retired state and federal employee. None of the above have any value of $50 or more. Attitude is everything. You can do anything if you have the attitude. I remember back when I was playing football for Coach Charlie Brown's Fighting Neville High School Tigers. People used to tell me, "You can't win. You folks are just plane too little. "

I said, "I saw a yellow jacket that was that little, about a half inch long. Made a 7,000 pound black angus bull jump a barbed wire fence with 8 strands of barbed wire on it- just like that. The bull got just a little attitude adjustment.

• A hearty appetite/ We serve Louisiana Style Cajun or Southern Style Food at every smoke school
• Fishing pole/ The fish always bite at a Whitlow Smoke School
• Camera for beautiful scenery and wildlife
• Hiking boots/ A lot of our schools are in State Parks Where you see lots of birds, deer, and turkeys
• Golf clubs
• If you use the cabins at the parks, bring something to cook in the fully equipped kitchen or on the grill. And bring towels. Most of these cabins have 2 or 3 bedrooms with blankets and sheets.  They can sleep 4 to 8 people for the same price as a hotel. We love staying in the state parks across America.
• A Smile/ Smoke School is fun.

• VISA- Don't leave home without it. Well, actually we take all credit cards and S&H Green Stamps. We might even take a mess a Polk- salad...Polk- salad Annie- Gators got your granny- What's  in your Wallet?

Whitlow Smoke Schools are informative and fun- like another day at the Beach- some beach somewhere- Fun- When was the last time you had fun at smoke school? Beware of flying clipboards at other smoke schools. Been There done That. That is how I lost my hair.
