Another short smoke school story by Uncle George of Whitlow Smoke School.
This story is about LSU Baseball, the College World Series, lazy days of summer, problems with the swimming pool, fishing, and Uncle George going to jail. There is a link below where you can make donations for Jerry’s kids.
These are the lazy hazy days of summer for the Whitlow Family. It has been really hot and humid down here in the Bayou State. Don’t feel like doing much of nuttin at all except maybe a fishing trip in the afternoon- the fish ain’t biting, but the boat runs good and the flooded cypress trees on the lakes look beautiful in the sunset. I got GPS in my pocket so I ain’t been lost yet. Keep life simple, that’s my motto. That homemade boat really runs like a champ. She is ugly, but want sink if it is ran over by a freight train. She is 3 layers of stainless steel all welded no rivets. Thanks to my good friend down there on Vermilion Bay. I really would love to catch a mess of chinquapins’ brim fish. If anyone knows where to go near Monroe, Louisiana or wants to take us out, then send us an email.
At the moment, I am sitting at the dinner table typing and watching the College World Series Baseball. LSU plays North Carolina Today, Tuesday at 6 PM Omaha time. I will be watching the game on ESPN and listening on the radio to the Voice of the Tigers, Jimmy Hawthorne on the radio like I have for both football and baseball over the past 25 years. You can listen to Jimmy nationwide at www.lsusports.net.
LSU finally made my dream come true again and made it to Omaha. Every year I have wanted to make the trip with them but something always comes up, like maybe a smoke school. But this year it is just time and money. I just don’t feel like spending a thousand bucks on airplane tickets and hotel rooms. To be honest I just got to prefer the comfort of my own bedroom out here in the piney woods. I really should break down and get one of them mobile homes and stop toting those suitcases up and down the stairs at hotels. I am just getting too old for all of that. That is the disadvantage of this life I have chosen as a smoke school provider. I sure do love to see all of you though.
Angie and I did make the trip to Hoover Alabama this year again to watch LSU win the SEC Championship. That game was exciting. I also made it down to Baton Rouge for the Super Regional. However, I had to stand in the handicap isle in center field and did not get much of a view of the first game. The crowd really got into the game. I ended up watching the rest of the games at Walk Ons, a restaurant and bar just off campus. I wore my headphones so I could listen to Jimmy.
I decided to just stay home and watch the game on ESPN in my recliner close to the Jack Daniels.
We keep having problems with the swimming pool. It keeps growing algae and turning green, Any suggestions? One day we left the pump in the wrong position and woke up with a dry swilling pool. That is for all of my good friends what ain’t learned how to swim yet. That should look good on my water bill next month- 30,000 gallons of water. Who would a thunk it?
Over the last month or so, I have been in the process of re-writing our web page to move it from geocities to Blue Host. I sure have regretted this decision, because it has taken me at least a thousand hours. My butt is tired. But it is done now. The new web page address url is www.smokeschool.net If you have any links, shortcuts, favorites, or bookmarks to a geocities page please delete them and use the new address www.smokeschool.net.
I did this primarily for my friends at Union Pacific who complained over the years that they could not read the web page or my stories. It is summer and time to smell the roses. Look at the stories and print them out. Take them to the bathroom with you. That is where I wrote them. Union Pacific and other large companies had complained that company internet filters had forbidden them to enter my geocities site, so I moved it.
Looks like after all of these years of tax invasion and tax evasion that I am finally going to jail. Jail is one of the methods my daddy used to keep me in line when I was a young buck. Daddy was the cop in charge of traffic in Monroe Louisiana my fair town. If I got out of line, he would drive me to jail and let me sit there in a locked cell with a concrete bed for an hour. His other line of attack was to send me with a clipboard and pen to stand on the corner of Sandifer Street at the railroad track to write down the license plate numbers of all of the cars that came by. “You never know when someone might rob the bank and try to get away.”
After all of these years, I am going to jail. The cops are coming to pick Angie and I up on July 22, 2008 at 11:AM and lock us up. Ain’t nuttin like forewarning? They are taking us to the Outback Steak House on Interstate 20 in West Monroe. This is all part of the Jerry’s Kids Muscular Dystrophies MDA Charity drive. You are welcome to make a donation to get me out of jail. https://www.joinmda.org/westmonroetelu08/smokeschool/
I wonder what the food is like in jail. Well that is the way it is and thank you very much.
